Family-Placed Death Notice
DABNEY, John C. JOHN CORNELIUS DABNEY John Cornelius Dabney died peacefully on April 27, 2011. He was born in 1918, at home, here in Atlanta, the only child of John Cornelius Dabney and Edna Marie Blackmon. He attended Boys High, and matriculated from Emory University with an A.B. degree, and the University of Tennessee with an M.S. degree. He created the firm Dabney & Associates, real estate appraisers and consultants, from which he retired in 1985. He held the MAI designation from the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers, the SREA designation from the Society of Real Estate Appraisers. He also held the CRE designation as a Counselor of Real Estate. He taught real estate appraising in Atlanta and around the country for both appraisal organizations and received the John O’Flaherty Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to teaching and the John S. Schneider Award for outstanding contribution to appraisal education. He held membership in the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta and the Rotary Club of Atlanta. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Hoyt Dabney; three children, John C. Dabney, Jr. and his wife Christiana Maria Hirschmann Weekly Dabney, Russell Hoyt Dabney, and Ann Marie Dabney Blane, and her husband William Young Blane; and four grandchildren, Peter Richman Blane, David Dabney Blane, Grace Ann Blane and William Christopher Blane. The family desires a private internment. A memorial service will be held at Presbyterian Village in Austell on May 14, 2011 at 3:00 pm. Instead of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate a contribution to the Caring Hands Fund at Presbyterian Village, 200 East-West Expressway, Austell, GA 30106.
